The Urge to Blog

What is it that drives an otherwise productive member of society to spend time publishing their thoughts on the web?

I'm not sure, but I have a theory...

Two things come to mind. First, a desire to share and receive attention. Second, a need to organize in a very unique way.

I think the most valuable motive for dedicating time to a blog is the organization it demands. I'm badly in need of a good blog to refer to on the topics which I intend to cover; might as well post that blog myself! By collecting information, thoughts, links and perspective, I can relearn anything that slips away from the front burners of my mind. I've always been good at teaching others, ever since I was young. I can even teach people things that I don't yet know myself! Well, given at least a digestible resource on the topic and a few hours to wrestle with it. Teaching has been, in my experience, one of the best methods of learning. (At least one of the most responsible). The demand to organize your thoughts in a manner that can be shared with others can truly lead to creativity and solid plans.

So then, with my work schedule in mind, I am placing that demand upon myself. I want my thoughts on work, life, and plans to make sense to me. If I can make sense of it for you, I think I will have achieved that.

Does that make sense? I hoped it would. ;]
